Migrant Education


Educational Advocate-Migrant Education Program

 
The SW Region Migrant Education Program at BOCES is seeking qualified applicants for an educational advocate. The advocate will work preschoolers and their families in order to prepare for kindergarten. The advocate will also work with K-5 students, families and school personnel in order to ensure that the migrant students are academically successful. Qualifications include: two years college in early childhood or work experience in early childhood; experience working with diverse populations; demonstrated ability to speak, read, and write in English and Spanish; a valid CO drivers license with proof of insurance and reliable transportation; ability to work flexible hours and computer literacy. Position requires travel in the Valley and to Denver for training. The Educational Advocate will work with the Migrant Education staff and will be directly supervised by the Director of the Migrant Program with specific duties and responsibilities. Applications will be accepted until July 31, 2012. Applications may be submitted on line at: www.slvboces.org or applications can be obtained at the BOCES offices, 2261 Enterprise Drive in Alamosa.

Director of Migrant Education

The San Luis Valley Board of Cooperative Educational Services has an opening for Director of Migrant Education.  This position administers the Southwest Region Migrant Education sub-grant and supervises the McKinney-Vento Homeless Education Grant Coordinator.  Primary responsibilities of this position are to: provide instructional leadership to designated school districts to increase the achievement of migrant and homeless students in federal /state funded programs; manage data collection and prepare Federal, State and BOCES reports as required; manage grant activities, budgets, supervision of staff; and to collaborate with other SLV-BOCES departments to improve delivery of services to districts. Applicant must have skills in English and Spanish reading, writing, and speaking. Masters degree in ESL/ Bilingual Education or in a field related or comparable to English Language Acquisition. ESL/Bilingual endorsement preferred with administration/leadership experience.  Process requires application, letter of interest, and three current letters of reference. Deadline is May 31, 2013 or until position is filled. Parent Liaison-Migrant Education Program

 
The SW Region Migrant Education Program at BOCES is seeking qualified applicants for a parent liaison. The parent liaison will provide advocacy and information to migrant parents to ensure that the migrant students are academically successful. The liaison will also be responsible for local and state parent advisory councils (PACs). Qualifications include: high school diploma or GED; knowledge of the migrant lifestyle; strong interpersonal skills; ability to speak, read, and write in English and Spanish; a valid CO drivers license with proof of insurance and reliable transportation; ability to work flexible hours . Position requires travel in the Valley and to Denver for training and PAC meetings. The Parent Liaison will work with the Migrant Education staff and will be directly supervised by the Director of the Migrant Program with specific duties and responsibilities. Applications will be accepted until July 31, 2012. Applications may be submitted on line at: www.slvboces.org or applications can be obtained at the BOCES offices, 2261 Enterprise Drive in Alamosa.
